Today is my birthday, one thing I share with Brigitte Bardot. There will be steak, chips and nice wine for tea, which last translates as 'dinner' for the posh people in the South of England. There will certainly be apple crumble too, thanks to the gnarled senile tree of unknown variety in the back garden, which yields heaps scabby but tasty cookers. Perhaps it ought to be my role model for dignified ageing as I stumble into the Autumn of my years. I daren't pursue the analogy in detail. Disturbing anatomical comparisons spring too readily to mind. Seven New Naturalist firsts were put onto the site today. There are quite a few to be researched and entered yet. ...
