O'Neill / Mourning Becomes Electra £35 or $55 or 43 Euros Postfree-By-Airmail Worldwide
Published by Jonathan Cape, 1938 reprint. 14 X 19
cm., light blue cloth.
"Good Plus" to "Very Good", no dustwrapper. With
interesting associations. The first free endpaper
bears the neat ownership signature of the artist
and sculptress Barbara Collingwood as "Barbara
March 1938."
This book was bought-in by us recently from the
estate of the church architect Janet Gnosspelius,
of the elite student group at the Liverpool
School of Architecture, also daughter of
geologist & flying-boat designer Oscar
Gnosspelius and sculptress Barbara Collingwood.
Most members of the interrelated Collingwood and
Gnosspelius families played inspirational parts
in Arthur Ransome's writings. Janet modelled for
the drawing of Nancy Blackett of the Swallows and
Amazons books. Arthur Ransome had once proposed
to Barbara, without success, but he still
dedicated Old Peter's Russian Tales (1916) to
her.

We have had lots of buying customers from Manchester and the midlandsn in the shop today. Cookery, history, literary criticism and Second World War have all gone well. Quite a bit of science has gone from the website too. The bargain ginnel has just been topped up with a number of history books. Tomorrow morning should see some activity there. ...
